How do I find a specific journal?

1) The first place to check for journals is the A-Z E-journal system.

You can find a link to the A-Z e-journal system on the library home page in the left sidebar, as shown below:

When you click on the link you will see a search box, and you enter the name of the journal in the search box and click the SEARCH button. A list of results will come up. If you see the journal you want, click on the "View Online" link. In the image below, we have the result for a search for the Journal of Applied Psychology.

When you click on the View Online link, the system will find links to all of the databases and publisher access points for the journal you're seeking:

Click the links to any of the sources to obtain access to the journal. Note that different databases may offer access through a different range of dates. Check carefully to find what you need. If you are accessing databases from off-campus, a screen may come up asking for your NetID and password.

2) If the journal is not available electronically, you can still check for paper copies by using the One-Search Library Catalog.

  • Go to the library home page, and look for the One-Search Library Catalog box in the center of the page:

  • Enter the name of the journal you're searching for and click the Search button.
  • If you need further assistance, ask at the Periodicals Desk on the upper floor of Helm Library, or call the Periodicals Office (270-745-6116).

3) What if the journal is not available at all through WKU Libraries?

  • If the journal is not available electronically or in paper at WKU Libraries, you can file an Interlibrary Loan request for the article you need.
  • Our Interlibrary Loan staff are able to fulfill most requests successfully and quickly.
  • For more information, contact the Interlibrary Loan office at 270-745-6118.
